19 Best ISTJ Anime Characters Ultimate List

Posted on March 4, 2022

ISTJs are often portrayed as the perfect anime characters – they are always dutiful and experts in whatever they do. They have a great deal of self-confidence and are able to always perform their best. Although they may have a low EQ by general standards, ISTJs are known to be very loyal and can be easily trusted. However, they don’t usually trust others that easily.

Despite their structured lives and planned-out responsibilities, ISTJ’s are easily recognizable among a group of people for their different aura. Though they may come off as less creative or open-minded, these personality type characters are unique and interesting. In anime, they are often seen as too serious, but I’ve compiled a top 10 list of the most interesting ISTJ characters.

1/19. Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden is a character from the eponymous anime series. She’s ISTJ-A, with a dominant introverted sensing function, supported by an auxiliary extraverted thinking function. Her tertiary introverted intuition makes her weak at responding to her environment and she’s terrible at socializing with others.

Peggy Carter is an Agent of Shield, as well as a skilled typist who can write perfect letters and documents with outstanding verbal accuracy. She has spent her life fighting in wars, and she is quite agile. You won’t find anyone else with more skill than Captain America at the S.H.I.E.L.D. academy!

2/19. Bruno Bucciarati

Although initially depicted as a cold-hearted bad ass with nothing but his own toil, Bojack finally reveals his deep capacity for empathy. Bojack is able to connect deeply with his friends and teammates, and often uses this bond to motivate himself towards more positive action. Through his friendships, he is able to resolve conflicts and achieve the success that he so desperately craves.

Bruno is always ready to come to the rescue! He’s a sturdy, unflinching companion who will be with you through thick and thin. Bruno’s positive outlook makes him an ideal team player, and he understands how to exploit his enemy’s weaknesses. If you’re looking for a dependable feline friend, Bruno is your man!

3/19. Kageyama Tobio

Kageyama has proven time and time again to be a formidable force on the court. While Kageyama may have made mistakes in his youth, his raw power and skill have more than proved themselves as he’s gained notoriety for his tremendous sets and back row plays.

Kageyama is the ideal setter — he’s definitely a blessing to the team. His prowess in setting is so great that his spikers gain confidence, as they rely less on their own abilities and more on Kageyama’s talent. Kageyama’s presence has made Hinata’s progress soar high, and the team itself floats higher with him at the net.

4/19. Rei Ayanami

I haven’t watched Evangelion, but Rei hits home for me because I am decidedly ‘detached’ and ’emotionless’ myself. I haven’t watched Evangelion, but Rei was the main character for me for a number of reasons, including her outer appearance and behavior.

5/19. Langa Hasegawa

Langa is the guy you go to when you have a question about skateboarding. He’s a serious character, and he’s always down for a skate session — which is rare in anime characters, who tend to be a bit more… expressive. He’s got that “doesn’t care” expression and speaks less, but when he does speak, he’s always invested in his passion and respected co-skaters.

6/19. Sakusa Kiyoomi

Sakusa is one of the best aces in Haikyuu, Haikyuu to the top. His calmer side means he’s able to calmly and rationally think about things; when it comes to his cool and competitive streak, he’s able to focus on what he needs to do in order to win. He’s definitely a force to be reckoned with!

Before attending Karasuno High, he was a famed volleyball player at his former school. He is hardworking and patient, with a strong competitive streak and a solid work ethic. However, he suffers from poor health and anxiety, which often leaves him exhausted and prone to illness. He has some trouble adjusting to the fast-paced world of high school volleyball, since he didn’t have enough time to prepare for it before making the move.

7/19. Megumi Fushiguro

Fushiguro is one of the four students at Ju-Jutsu Tech. He’s a very serious student who loves to learn and perform new jutsu, even though he has a tendency to get into trouble with his friends by saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Being born into an old ninja family, he’ll try to fit in as best as he can at school, but will have fun learning to use jutsus with his friends!

Fushiguro is a truth-seeker. He has decided to take action against the world full of lies, so that others can live their lives happily. His special ability is spotting loopholes in enemy tactics, which allows him to find the right counter.

8/19. Mikasa Ackerman

Mikasa Ackerman is the #1 Titan-slayer in the world. She’s a major character from the anime series Attack on Titan, and she’s also my favorite. She’s powerful, swift, and fearless. So don’t be surprised if your plans to conquer the market are stopped dead in their tracks by this powerful anime woman — because I’m backing her all the way!

She is a woman of few words and an iron will. She’s stronger than most of the men in the Scout Regiment and she’s fast enough to kill titans with her bare hands. If you’re looking for a military woman who follows orders without questions and can take on any titan, then Mikasa is your girl.

9/19. Yoshikage Kira

Yoshikage Kira is a reserved guy who likes simple things, but he’s pretty crazy on the inside. He wants to be a normal guy, but he doesn’t have enough courage to do so. We all love this character, and have since the first time we met him in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable.

Our protagonist and hero, Jason Bourne is the super spy with an amnesia problem. What do you know about amnesia? Not a lot, really? Well, for one thing it’s a serious medical condition that affects thousands of people every day. And it’s also a serious issue in our new movie, “Jason Bourne”. In fact, you might say it’s the issue at the heart of the whole film.

10/19. Giyu Tomioka

The Tomioka Giyu guy is a total unknown! He looks serious, but everyone says he’s harmless. I mean, who doesn’t like free food and cute girls? Anyway, he was one of the nine hashiras in the Underworld, so you know he means business. If you ever need a friend to talk about your problems with, he’s your man!

Nevertheless, Tanjiro and Giyu are two very different boys who end up becoming fast friends. Tomioka is a ‘Water Hashira’ — a human who uses breathing techniques to fight demons, even though he prefers not to talk about his own history with them. He’s quiet and skilled with his sword, but these days he’s also an excellent trainer for other Water Hashira.

11/19. Aki Hayakawa (Chainsaw Man)

ISTJs are normally very direct in the workplace, but have a harder time expressing their softer side at home. This way of being has developed as a result from how they were raised. They were taught not to share too much with others, because people will take advantage of them. It is important for ISTJs to realize that being vulnerable does not make them weak, and that being more balanced can lead to having better relationships both at home and at work.

Aki Hayakawa has a vendetta against the Gun Devil, and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. He’ll use his dependable nature — the same dependable nature that ISTJs are famous for — to achieve this goal. The Gun Devil better look out!

12/19. Kento Nanami (Jujutsu Kaisen)

The ice-cold sorcerer, Kento Nanami, has the ability to control any and all things involving water. Responsible and disciplined, he doesn’t let his emotions get in the way of anything. However, he wants his fighting style to make a difference to others, so he uses his sorcery for good rather than for evil.

Nanami is cynical, tactless, and often abrasive. He’s turned off by optimism for no obvious reason and doesn’t seem to care about other people. He believes in making the most effective use of every moment so that he can adhere to his timeline.

13/19. Tenya Iida (My Hero Academia)

ISTJs are known for their duty and protectionism. They work hard to be the best at their jobs so they can continue to provide for their families and friends. At school, Tenya Iida is no exception — he hopes to become a great hero just like his older brother, Tensei Iida, so that he can live up to his big bro’s example.

ISTJs are a rare type, accounting for only 9% of the population. It’s one of the rarest of the 16 Myers-Briggs personality types, which means we have a lot to learn about them. As an ISTJ myself, I spend a lot of time learning more about my type and the struggles we face as a minority group. To learn more about ISTJs in your life and what they might be going through, read on!

14/19. Koutarou Amon (Tokyo Ghoul)

ISTJs are often overlooked in fiction as heroes. That’s what makes Koutarou Amon so exceptional. It’s not that he is an ISTJ superhero, it’s that he portrays the strengths and ideals of any ISTJ personality type. His focus, loyalty, perceptiveness and level-headedness are qualities of any ISTJ personality type. So if you’ve ever felt like your personality type isn’t the most popular one out there, look to Amon!

Amon is a straightforward guy — he is dedicated to his cause, protective of children, and introspective about his morals, feelings, and values. Except for the little fact that ghouls are individuals with a wide variety of emotions, values and beliefs — Amon, try not to think about it. Let’s just say he grows from being anti-ghoul to accepting their existence.

15/19. Teru Mikami (Death Note)

ISTJs are an interesting type — even more interesting than you thought. They’re also a little mysterious, and you’re not sure how to understand them. You probably think that you could never be friends with one, but it might surprise you. If your ISTJ has gotten in touch with their Extraverted Sensing, they can really be a blast to hang out with!

Miko is very precise and regimented in his lifestyle. This works to his advantage when he’s at work, but it has made it difficult for him to relax and have fun, especially since he spends so much time at the office — the last thing he wants to do when he’s leaving work is to go back there! To help change this, I suggest Miko take up one of his hobbies again.

16/19. Arima Kousei (Your Lie in April)

Although she won’t admit it, Kousei’s relationship with Kaori is one of the reasons why he’s finally able to find his feet as an artist. As a classic ENFP, Kaori is an unthinkingly honest person who flies by the seat of her pants and makes friends with everyone that she meets.

17/19. Kurogane (Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles)

Kurogane is a caring leader who always puts his duties as a knight before himself. He has a strong sense of self-preservation, and never rushes into anything without thinking. His self-control and wisdom make him the perfect leader – but he also knows how to relax, too.

18/19. Miles Edgeworth (Ace Attorney)

Miles is a warm and caring person who has been described as ‘the most friendly person you’ll ever meet’. He works on projects that help with peace and harmony, and he’s always on the lookout for ways his company can help others.

19/19. Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto)

Sasuke Uchiha is one of the major (and most beloved) characters in the Naruto series. He’s mysterious, violent, and often behaves in manners we can’t even begin to understand. He’s been through hell and back and will stop at nothing until he exacts his revenge on the man who destroyed his clan.
